Itinerary

  • Day
    1

We'll meet in Port Hardy BC (northern tip of Vancouver Island) at the government boat dock at 8:30 am for scenic ride in the Hurst Isle 20-passenger boat out to God's Pocket Resort in the island archipelago of God's Pocket Provincial Park. Orientation to the lodge and grounds and early lunch. Comprehensive orientation to kayaking in the lodge's sheltered cove and afternoon paddle. Hors d'eourvres and wine are served on lodge's waterfront deck, then we'll enjoy dinner in the cozy dining room prepared by the lodge's private chef. Evening activities include happy hour on the sun deck, a beach campfire, moonlight paddle, nature talks/stories/games/laughter in the library, enjoying hot showers.

Day 2-4 Each day we'll head out in a different direction among the islands and islets, looking for minke and humpback whales, Dall's porpoise, seals and bald eagles. A highlight is kayaking along the sea cliffs enjoying the intertidal life above and below the water - the diversity here is what makes this area famous among SCUBA divers. We also see evidence of First Nations habitation such as middens and we'll learn about their past and current history.

To completely round out your stay on northern Vancouver Island we recommend you add on a day tour orca-watching in Johnstone Strait with MacKay Co out of Port McNeill or Stubbs Island out of Telegraph Cove. We often see orcas near God's Pocket but they congregate in Johnstone Strait further east.
