Our guides hold the highest level of sea kayaking certification in the world. Some guides hold PHD's in anthropology, degrees in biology and geography. The guides are passionate about this environment, the Deer Group Islands, this is our home, we live here. We know the area very well, we have been leading tours in the Barkley Sound and the Deer Group Islands for 15 years. The guides are excited about sharing their knowledge with their clients. Highly trained, knowledgeable, experienced and most of all fun loving and helpful.

Itinerary

    1

    We would like to meet you the day before the tour at 1167 Helen Road in Ucluelet. Come and meet your guides, we will give you dry bags to put your clothes in and offer packing advice. Day one we meet at 8:30 at 1167 Helen Road, Ucluelet, BC. Here we travel together on our big Mothership with all our equipment to the Deer Group Islands, approximately 45 minute ride. At the Deer Group Islands we unload our equipment and set up our camp, we may choose to keep the camp in one place for the duration of the trip or move the camp to maximize paddling terain. After an equipment orientation, lessons and a safety talk, we begin paddling the Deer Group Islands.

    2

    Each morning breakfast is at 8:00 am and we aim for 9:30 to be on the water, paddling the Deer Group Islands. We will visit the island archipelago referred to as the Chain Group, searching out impressive sea caves and wandering through towering forests of cedar, hemlock and sitka spruce. Kayaking in the sheltered bays you can enjoy viewing the multicoloured tiny little fish, the colourful sea enenomies, urchins and sea cucumbers. Its like being in an aquarium.

    3

    Each day we paddle 4 - 6 hours per day with rest stops. Your guides will share their knowledge of the area, the flora and fauna. The Deer Group Islands offer wilderness camping and is abundant with sealife. Paddling lessons are offered to those that are interested, navigation, weather interpretation, and much more from your knowledgeable guides. The more skilled and comfortable you are in your kayak, the more you will enjoy the surroundings. At the end of the day of paddling our guides prepare delicious meals and build warm social campfires where everyone can relax and share stories.

    4

    This final day, we paddle all morning and then after lunch the Mothership will pick you up and transport you back to Ucluelet. By now you have developed your kayaking skills, you are comfortable in your kayak and you are already planning your next trip. The trip ends in Ucluelet at approximately 3:30 in the afternoon.
